Welcome!

My name is Martin Geraghty.

My first novel, A Mind Polluted, was published in March 2018 by Crooked Cat Books. I have had work published by The Common Breath, Ellipsis Zine, Speculative Books and various others.

I have rewritten A Mind Polluted recently and also finished the manuscript for what I hope will be my second novel.

Excerpt from A Mind Polluted.

Strangely, in the past year or so, whenever this scene has returned to haunt me, my mind’s eye has added another layer of disturbing imagery. The librarian appears at the table, an outstretched hand full of checked paper like butcher’s use to wrap meat. She drops the contents on the desk, blood splashes on my school shirt and face. I’m staring at what looks like viscera as the librarian’s manic laugh causes others to join in.

About me

Despite being a keen reader, I had never contemplated creative writing until the summer of 2016. A week before the Brexit referendum, a member of parliament, Jo Cox, was murdered. Various aspects of the tragedy resonated with me. The murder of a beautiful person who attempted to make the world a better place, the dignity shown by her husband, then, I began to think about the individual who carried out the murder. What happened in his childhood? What happened in his life to get to this stage? When the answers to these questions became public, I began to write about a character, Connor Boyd, the protagonist of my novel, and how he allows a childhood incident to dictate his life.
